A meeting of the Berlin Board of Education was held in the Berlin High School library beginning at 6:00 p.m. Present for the meeting were Mitch Couture, Martha Laflamme, Nicole Plourde, Nathan Morin, John Moulis, Steve Michaud, Gary Bisson, Tim Forestall, Dan Record, Jane Provencher, Beverly Dupont, Ken Proulx, Corinne Cascadden, Robert Rodrigue, Angela Duquette, Kristen Bushway, Richard Lafleur, Dave Morrissette, and members of the press.
MINUTES On a motion by Martha Laflamme, seconded by Nicole Plourde, the Board voted to approve the minutes of the September 5, 2007 meeting, public and nonpublic sessions. The motion passed unanimously.
WARRANTS A motion was made by Martha Laflamme, seconded by Nicole Plourde, to approve the warrants dated September 17, and 24, 2007 for the amounts of $4,769.04, $900.00, and $254,442.94 respectively. On a roll call vote, Martha Laflamme, Nicole Plourde and Nathan Morin voted in the affirmative; with Mitch Couture abstaining.
COMMENTS None
BUS POSITION On a motion by Nicole Plourde, seconded by Martha Laflamme, the Board voted to approve the hiring of an additional bus driver for the district. On a roll call vote all members voted in the affirmative.
CIVICS COURSE Richard Lafleur, a resident of and councilor of the City of CityBerlin, and David Morrissette, Social Studies Department Chairman, discussed the changes and expansion of the Civics and Government course at the Berlin High School.~ Mr. Lafleur and Mr. Morrissette discussed changes in the course that included the postponement of the scheduled mock election and the development of a questionnaire by students to survey members of the Berlin Board of Education and the City of Berlin’s Mayor and City Council.~ The responses by elected officials assist the students in understanding the importance of civic awareness and civic responsibility in our community, state and nation.~ Members of the board asked questions
and discussed the importance of the course with the presenters.~ They thanked Mr. Lafleur and Mr. Morrissette. ~~

SUPER REPORT Nicole Plourde will be marching in the Homecoming Parade. Mitch Couture, Martha Laflamme, and Nathan Morin will be observing.

NON PUBLIC On a motion by Nicole Plourde, seconded by Nathan Morin, the Board voted to go in to nonpublic session at 6:25 p.m. in accordance with RSA 91-A3II(a),(b), (c). On a roll call vote, all members voted in the affirmative.
On a motion by Martha Laflamme, seconded by Nathan Morin, the Board voted to come out of nonpublic session at 7:05 p.m. The motion passed unanimously. There were no additional votes taken in nonpublic session.
